Cheap Mattresses Provide Poor Support

Like many people, I tried to save a buck or two purchasing some cheap mattresses for my family. We traveled to a discount store across town to snatch what we thought was a great bargain. The discount prices turned out to be wonderful, or so it seemed.

Everyone in the family was thrilled to spend the first night on their new bed. The kids’ mattresses have a fun space design printed on it. As my children drifted off into dreamland, my husband and I tried out our new mattress, as well. We all woke up ready for the day. The kids had no complaints about their new mattresses. In fact, my daughters even noticed they didn’t have the curve in them like the old bed. My husband and I awoke on our own side of the bed, not compressed together in the middle as usual.

Less than a year later, the children’s beds were already showing serious signs of breakdown. Even under the pressure of just 40 pounds, you could easily identify where the child slept on the bed. I climbed on the mattress one day to reach the far corner of the sheet when the end of the mattress made a loud crack. The wooden frame inside the bed had pushed through the material covering. It was then that I saw the flimsy foam and contents of the product.

My king-sized mattress lasted a little longer than the children’s twin beds, but we quickly got rid of the bed when my husband and I started waking up with back pain. Clearly, the discount prices were not a bargain at all. The family had to turn right around and purchase new mattresses to replace the cheap ones.

Save money by investing in a quality mattress the first time. We now own high-quality, name brand products that have stood the test of time. A bargain on a mattress really isn’t saving money if the product needs to be replaced in a short period of time.

We spend 1/3 of our time in bed. It is worth the cost to enjoy a good night’s sleep. Since sleep affects both body and mind, it is recommended to buy the highest quality product available within the means at the time. A good mattress should last nearly a decade. In my experience, cheap mattresses only last about a year or so before they need to be replaced. Don’t fall for the discount bargain, get comfort and support from a quality mattress.
